- Abstract
In 2020 we modestly commemorated 75 years of the shut down of the last death factories of the Final Solution in a global atmosphere of still brooding anti-Semitism and ethnical tensions. The Holocaust is among the greatest disgrace for human beings claiming to be “civilized”. It was performed in the very core of the most civilized part of the world at that time – Europe. The Holocaust was probably the most organized genocide of all times with its pinnacle -the invention of the industrialized mass murder. It required an unseen by then planning, organization, developing of technologies and building of infrastructure and facilities for mass murder of civilians. Some estimates state that millions of Europeans took part in it or supported it, even more Europeans knew of it or witnessed part of it. And it seems a deplorably small number Europeans did something to avert the tragedy of such vastness and magnitude. In the present analysis are compared some factors and specifics of the Holocaust in the countries allied with Germany during the Second World War which formally maintained their sovereignty thus technically speaking had a better opportunity to prevent the extermination of their citizens of Jewish ethnicity.
