- Abstract
The article discusses a research study about the morphometrics and cytogenetics of the species of the didelphid genera of Gracilinanus agilis and Cryptonanus from Central and Northeast Brazil. Results of multivariate analyses of craniodental measurements and descriptive statistics of external body measurements show the larger size of Gracilinanus agilis compared with Cryptonanus. Cytogenetic analysis also revealed the similarities of the karyotypes of both species except for the fourth autosomal pair and the X chromosome. Small blocks of constitutive heterochromatin located at the pericentromeric regions of all autosomes and X chromosome were observed on the C-banding patterns in specimens.
