- Abstract
University-based teacher training programs need to train skilled and competent prospective teachers for the needs of the 21st century. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between prospective preschool teachers' 21st century skills and self-regulation skills. The study group of the research, in which the relational model was adopted, consisted of 119 prospective preschool teachers. In the research, in order to evaluate the 21st century skills of prospective teachers and their self-regulation skills, "21. Century Skills Scale" and "Self-Regulation Scale" were used. As a result of the research, it was found that prospective preschool teachers' 21st century skills and self-regulation skills were high, 21st century skills did not differ according to grade level, but self-regulation skills differed according to grade level. In addition, gender was effective in terms of 21st century skills and female prospective preschool teachers had higher 21st century skills than males, but gender did not have any effect on self-regulation skills. The study also concluded that there was a relationship between 21st century skills and self-regulation skills, and that self-regulation is a significant predictor of 21st century skills.
