- Abstract
The article discusses the repression and violence facing the citizens of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, China which is the home of the indigenous Muslims Uighurs and Kazakhs. Topics discussed include the construction of detention camps which allegedly detained Uighurs, Kazakhs and other groups, and the anti-religious extremism campaign targeting Uighur nationalist sentiment, and President Xi Jinping's efforts to control the region to ensure the success of the Belt and Road Initiative.
