- Abstract
The article focuses on the risk of cardiovascular disease mortality in later life caused by small birth size. It presents a detailed description of the Hertforshire Ageing Study's (HAS) investigations of morbidity based on physiological investigations of men and women born in Hertfordshire between 1920 and 1930 and who are still living in the early 1990s. It showed that sarcopenia, or loss of muscle mass in later life, was related to lower birth weight and that different systems of the same individual do not age together.
