CHAPTER THREE: Mangiamele's Migrant Movies.
- Authors
Rando, Gaetano; Moliterno, Gino
- Abstract
The article explores the cinematic representation of the Italian migration experience of filmmaker Giorgio Mangiamele in Melbourne, Victoria during the 1950s and the early 1960s. His initial cinematic ventures are inspired by the challenges of being an immigrant in the city and treat migration themes through potent claustrophobic images. His works communicate despair, dislocation, and solitude of the home country. His films also depict general issues related to social justice, social responsibility and wider-ranging existentialist themes.
