- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze a discursive field about the black people that seeks, through prognostications, that is, texts that articulate past and present to project actions for the future, to convince nationals that in addition to the black presence being a "hindrance" for national development, it also needs to be "compensated" with the importation of white European immigrants. To do so, we will observe three prognoses published in the Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro in the 19th century, texts that have a temporality typical of the delimitations of modern historiography, always in dialogue with the ancien regime of historicity and that aim to manufacture a nationality, persuade nationals and foreigners that more than half of the country's population was absent from its formation to defend whitening and an increasingly white past.
