- Abstract
The present article examines the relation between the economic crises and social pacts in Western Europe between 1973 and 2010. The Political, economic and institutional transformations which have taken place during this period, and to a certain extent implemented in the depressive phases of the economic cycle, they have had a clear impact in social concertation. The Social Pacts have changed in terms of incentives, structure and content of the policies applied; from a model of overall income pacts of Keynesian basis and with a redistributive main objective (neo-corporatism) to the recent competitive social concertation (competitive corporatism), which has opted to implement adjustment measures, reduction of public expenditure and deregulation the markets in order to improve the competitiveness of enterprises and thus stimulate economic activity and job creation.
