- Abstract
Throughout history, the man-plant relationship and the cultural form have been a fundamental basis in the medicinal field. The ethnobotany of Geum peruvianum Focke (Rosaceae) "valeriana" existing in Bambamarca district, Bolivar province, La Libertad region, Peru (7º26´11.7" S and 77º41´53.0"W, ca. 3428 m) is presented. This species in turn is a new record for this Andean region in the north of the country. The ethnobotanical information was obtained according to the methodology, techniques and protocols with semi-structured interviews and through informal interviews with the inhabitants. The results indicate that the locals generally use the root for the medicinal purpose with dosage in oral form either in decocts or infusions, to treat stress, nervous breakdowns and insomnia with satisfactory results.
