- Abstract
Thyroid paragangliomas are very rare tumors. Because they contain arteriovenous shunts, paragangliomas have hypervascular structure. Definitive diagnosis of thyroid paraganglioma can be established by immunohistochemical staining of the material. A 34-year-old female patient presented with complaints of painless and slowly growing swelling on the left middle area of the neck for 16 years. The patient underwent left total lobectomy. In histological analysis, positive staining for chromogranin, neuron-specific enolase and synaptophysin and negative staining for cytokeratin were observed. As a result, the patient was diagnosed with paraganglioma. (The Medical Bulletin of Haseki 2012; 50: 110-2)
