The article focuses on several topics including contribution of Mark Hatfield, Governor of Oregon towards metallurgy. Topics discussed include Pacific Power & Light added money to build the High Bay Laboratory in Oregon; and Oregon Graduate Institute of Science & Technology (OGI) to merge with the state medical school, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland. It mentions about development of a electroslag welding circa 1987 in part to rejuvenate Portland as a shipbuilding hub.
