The article focuses on the acquisition of Iowa Beef Processors Inc. (IBP) by Tyson Foods Inc. in 2001. It highlights several motivations for mergers and acquisitions that have been studied in the academic literature including synergy, bargains, and macroeconomic factors. It provides financial performance measures and stock price data. More so, the acquisition has significantly changed the composition of Tyson Inc.
