- Authors
Spears, Julia
- Abstract
The article offers information on the Saluki Research Rookies Program (SRRP) carried out by Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). The author states that SRRP was established in 1998 as a pilot program which aims to encourage high-achieving freshmen students to actively participate in undergraduate research programs as well as establish a strong partnership among students and faculties within the campus. The author also relates his experience in participating with the program, along with the benefits and advantages attained, including real-world applications, strong mentoring relationship and leverage opportunities. The author suggests that undergraduate programs should not be aligned in one study aspect or office to obtain nontraditional benefits.
