- Abstract
The article discusses the literary genre of Afro-Colombian prose fiction and examines how issues related to social conditions, education, and racial identity in Colombia have contributed to the limited number of authors that produce works within the genre. Statistics related to education and poverty for Afro-Colombians are highlighted and a historical overview of displacement, discrimination, and violence within black communities in Colombia is provided. The impact of constitutional reform and the government's emphasis on promoting multiculturalism are discusses in relation to their influence on producing Afro-Colombian writers.
