Benign transient hyperphosphatasemia in infants and children: a prospective cohort.
- Authors
Teitelbaum, Jonathan E.; Laskowski, Alexandra; Barrows, Frank P.
- Abstract
The article describes a study that monitored 20 children from ages 1 to 5 years old diagnosed with benign transient hyperphosphatasemia (BTH) between 2003 and 2009 at The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. It explains that BTH is a condition characterized by elevated serum alkaline phosphatase (AP) levels that is usually resolved after several months. It also recommends repeat serological investigations in 2-3 months as a safe and cost-effective way for clinicians to monitor their patients' AP levels.
