- Abstract
In the present assay, the meaning of some words spoken by the Karakoyunlu Yorukleri (KY), large part of them have been settled in the region of Antalya and some still endure to live a nomadic life were assessed. The language of KY includes the words from Turkish in XIII and XIV centuries in Anatolia and ancient Turkic words. The meaning of words spoken by nomadic Karakoyunlu people was compared with those defined in the Great Turkish Dictionary (GTD) published on the WEB of Turkish Language Association. In this study, 56 out of 690 words were not listed in GTD and 156 words have a similar meaning in both Karakoyunlu and GTD. Although 131 words were listed in GTD, their meanings were different from the spoken dialectic of Karakoyunlu Nomad. Great Turkish Dictionary (GTD) included the remained 347 words with the at least one similar meaning; nevertheless, diverse meanings for these words were also described. It seems that the meaning of words has changed in time in the earlier settling people in Anatolia, while the possibility in the true meaning of words are highest if the nomadic people has settled as latest time or has a nomadic life nowadays. It is vital that researchers in the philology of a group of people must have the knowledge about their culture, language and history.
