- Abstract
This paper examines one of the most common practices in the early years of university education: the monograph. This analysis takes the theoretical approach of gender analysis and the swalesian analytical model proposed by Salom, Monreal and Olivares (2009). Our main goal is to analyse the rhetorical construct of the introductory section of these texts, produced by 102 sophomores from various degree courses studied University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain). This is an empirical study of exploratory and analytical nature carried out by a mixed approach. The results allow to draw a path in which we will identify where the greatest challenges lie concerning the development of the introduction in the monographs. Among these, we highlight the lack of information density for the readers' understanding of the object under study, as well as the perspective from which it is developed and presented.
