- Title
Two Ways of Teaching ESL Students and Students who Speak Nonstandard Dialects about Tense Markers in English.
- Authors
Berry, Amy
- Abstract
The article recommends two ways of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) students and students who speak non-standard dialects about tense markers in English. The first way involves beginning with regular plural nouns ending with "s." The second way employs the concept of the marked and unmarked case, which involves explaining to students that tense equals time. The difference between the English infinitive and other languages is then discussed, followed by putting a verb grid on the board.
