- Abstract
The article discusses various issues concerning the role of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and U.S. attorney Carmen Ortiz in a case related to computer programmer Aaron Swartz, who faced prosecution on charges of sedition. It reveals that Swartz was prosecuted for accessing the proprietary academic-research site JSTOR by using the MIT's computer system, despite declining the hacking charges on Swartz by the organization JSTOR. It reflects on academic autonomy and free inquiry.
