- Authors
Barrera, Aida
- Abstract
The article discusses the events related to escuelitas or little schools, the private institutions in Texas, to illustrate issues connected with the schooling of Mexican American children between 1897 and 1965. The members of the League of United Latin American Citizens have promoted a preschool English-language instructional program called Little Schools of the 400. The escuelitas demonstrated the interest of Texas Americans in providing educational opportunities for their children and also their attempts to maintain their native culture and language.
