- Abstract
The article presents a study made by E. Ryan et al, which determines the prevalence of exposure to Coxiella burnetti (CB) in the Republic of Ireland's sheep and goats. The authors report on Q fever, a zoonotic disease caused by infection with CB, which causes abortion and reproductive problems in ruminants, with goats being the most susceptible. They find that serological surveys are useful tools for estimating population-level exposure to CB, but are less dependable at an individual level.
