- Title
Spanish Theater and the Discourse of Self-Definition.
- Authors
Gies, David T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the discourse of self-definition in Spanish theater between 1845 and 1870. It primarily mentions the issue of identity, within national and personal contexts. The author uses several examples of plays from the era that address these issues, such as Tomás Rodriguez Rubí's play "La rueda de la fortuna" and "El tejado de vidrio," by Adelardo López de Ayala. Spanish theater between these years is a profound period that witnessed the decline of Romanticism and the beginnings of the Realist era.
