- Abstract
The article describes the waterworks in the fountain displays and gardens of the summer palace residence of the house of Herrenhausen in Hannover, Germany in the 17th century. It explains how baroque rulers used the modern machinery of these fountains as displays of their power and forward thinking, and it discusses the designers, including the scientist Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. It also presents drawings of the fountains as they were in the 17th century along with photographs from 2010.
