- Abstract
In the article, rumor is analysed as a phenomenon of informal communication. The features and tendencies of susceptibility of social groups (youth, businessmen, intelligentsia, and pensioners) to rumor are characterized. It is shown that the susceptibility of social groups to rumor is determined by their priorities and interests. Youth is mostly susceptible to rumors related to education, leisure (its quality) and employment (possibility to find a job), although in separate age groups these priorities are different. Businessmen are mostly susceptible to rumors related to laws that are favorable or unfavorable to business, the usage of new production and service technologies, changes in the taxation system, the actions of competitors in the market, the development of business, etc. Creative intelligentsia is susceptible to rumors related to copyright, fair payment (honorarium), a possibility to publish and expose their work in the country and abroad, support of the state and business organizations for the implementation of creative projects. Intelligentsia that works in production and service spheres is susceptible to rumors related to career possibilities, social guarantees, salary, possibilities related to career and work abroad. Administrative intelligentsia is susceptible to rumors related to career possibilities, salary, presence or absence of benefit and social security. The main information sources related to rumors are conversations with strangers in public places (streets, transport, etc.) (14%), conversations with well known people, neighbors (15%), school fellows (10%), at work (11%), in leisure places (7%), meetings with friends (6%), conversations with family members (12%), information received from the mass media (24%), the Internet (6%). But separate social groups, on the one hand, show their vitality and force which should be taken into consideration and, on the other hand, impel to strive for a better quality and clarity of the information that would likely reduce the power of rumors and contribute to the improvement of public information space.
