- Abstract
In the study of inflammatory bowel diseases, mainly over the last few decades, so many contributing factors have been suggested to add to the diseases' manifestation and severity. Of these factors, genetic predisposition, environmental factors, psychological and physiological state as well as microbiota composition and function in the gut have been addressed frequently. In addition, existing data point to the possible interplay between these factors. Understanding the nature of such an interrelationship requires a more comprehensive and broader conceptual assessment that can examine and characterise the temporal association between these contributing factors longitudinally and in the bigger cohort of IBD patients.
