- Abstract
The article discusses interpretations and debates concerning Second Council of Lyon decree known as the Usurarum voraginem, particularly the decree's intent regarding the refusal of lodging to, and expulsion of, foreign usurers, and whether it applied to Jewish and Christian usurers. It examines the shifting interpretations of the decree, the conflation of Christian and Jewish usurers, and various readings of the decree by popes including Pope Eugene IV, John XXII, and Martin V.
