- Title
The point of icicles.
- Abstract
The article discusses the study on the formation of icicles conducted by researchers Martin B. Short, James C. Baygents, and Raymond E. Goldstein. The team aimed to compare the predicted shape to the real icicles by using a simple mathematical equation. They found out that the same mathematical formula that describes the shape of stalactites also describes the shape of icicles. They revealed that the growth of icicles is resulted by the diffusion of heat away through a thin fluid layer of water and the resulting updraft of air traveling over the surface.
