- Abstract
The study analyzed the physical and chemical characteristics of roof tiles excavated from the Jeju Hangpaduri Fortress to confirm the materials and manufacturing techniques used. The red, gray, and black roof tiles were analyzed separately, and it was found that the firing temperature range and atmosphere differed for each color, which affected their color and absorption rate. The major components and trace elements of each color group were also analyzed, indicating that they were made from different clay sources but had a similar refining process. The study also noted some limitations of the analysis techniques used, such as the use of acid in the ICP sample preprocessing process, which affected the analysis of some elements, and the fact that unstable elements at high temperatures remained in earthenware samples, which could affect the analysis results. And suggested that comparing the results of trace element analysis using NAA and ICP could help accurately identify the correlation between production and consumption sites.
