- Abstract
In Ruth Moon's book, "Authoritarian Journalism: Controlling the News in Post-Conflict Rwanda," she explores the influence of institutional frameworks on journalism in cultures that have experienced conflict. Moon argues that conflicting logics create a challenging environment for journalists, who must navigate autonomy and impartiality while accommodating the demands of their profession. Through ethnographic research, interviews, and a comprehensive examination of literature, Moon examines media manipulation and control in post-conflict Rwanda. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach, highlighting the role of digital platforms and technology in authoritarian journalism. While focused on Rwanda, the book's findings have broader implications for media freedom and governance in authoritarian regimes worldwide.
