- Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable scale to determine the critical thinking skills of secondary school students. In this context, a critical thinking skill scale was developed considering the scale development steps in the literature. In order to obtain the validity and reliability data of the scale, which was aimed to be developed in the related research, the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. In this direction, first of all, an item pool was created by literature review of the relevant field. There are 296 items in the item pool. Then, out of 296 items, 35 candidate items that were predicted to be suitable for the level of secondary school students were determined. Expert opinion was asked to determine the suitability of the candidate items. In line with the opinions of the experts, the candidate scale took its final form. Then, in order to ensure the construct validity of the candidate items, the thinking aloud technique was applied with four secondary school students studying at the fifth and sixth grade levels. After the thinking aloud technique, the items that the participants would have difficulty in understanding or that could be interpreted in more than one way were revised. The final version of the scale was administered to 264 secondary school students. In order to determine the internal validity of the scale, the data obtained were transferred to the online environment and subjected to exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. In order to ensure the reliability of the scale, the Cronbach Alpha value was calculated. After the necessary validity and reliability studies, it was seen that the scale had 5 dimensions and the alpha value was .732. There are 24 questions in the final form of the scale.
