- Abstract
The article discusses playwright William Shakespeare's depiction of the Duchy of Lancaster's reformation into the early modern nation-state in his Henriad historical tetralogy. Topics covered include the Duchy's relative autonomy from the crown in "Richard II," the political facets of the Lancastrian Duchy in "Henry IV Parts 1 and 2" and the absence of referrals to Lancaster in "Henry V." Also noted is Shakespeare's achievement of geopolitical reconstruction of Lancastrian history.
