The author reflects on immunotherapy approach to treat cancer which involves genetic retargeting of T cells with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs). The author mentions that CAR technology was started in the late 1980s where scientific organizations including Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) have made essential developments.
