- Abstract
This article presents a study on the distribution and characteristics of pantropical spotted dolphins in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean (SWA). The study found that pantropical spotted dolphins were recorded in the SWA during the summer, fall, and spring seasons, with no records during winter months. The dolphins were observed in waters ranging from 141 to 2,677 meters in depth, with most sightings occurring on the continental slope. The study also suggests that the dolphins may have a broader distribution than previously thought, potentially due to the effects of climate change. The findings highlight the importance of the Santos Basin as an area for the species and suggest that further research is needed to understand their abundance and density patterns.
