- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the role of eddies in the offshore foraging grounds in melon-headed whales in Hawaii. The study used Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) and analyzed the satellite telemetry data from 10 whales to test the hypothesis on the impact of offshore eddy systems in the movement of the whales from the vicinity of main Hawaiian Islands. Visual inspection has confirmed the coincidence of the melon-headed whale's tracks with specific eddy regions.
