- Abstract
Any industrial, traffic or even domestic emission carries a certain level of risk to people's health. For this reason, it is the responsibility of the authorities to intervene and investigate these emissions to ensure that the quality of the air that all citizens breathe is always maintained at the optimum possible level. Due to the European environmental regulations, transposed in Spain in RD 102/2011 of January 18th, it is required that there must be at least one pollution measurement point for every 50,000 km2 or two million inhabitants. To this end, the member States of European Union must have a Network for the Control of Air Pollution (NCAP) with the aim of monitoring environmental pollution and being able to act accordingly based on the results obtained. This monitoring must be carried out 365 days a year, making measurements of the parameters required in said the RD 102/2011 at different points during 24 hours in order to have an understanding of what is happening and to be able to take actions accordingly based on the values of each pollutant. This article refers to the data collected by a NCAP from a city in Spain made up of seven meteorological stations that have measured 12 environmental parameters during the same period of time and for a total of eight years. This period has been selected for this analysis because the year 2020 coincides with the Spanish state of alarm due to covid-19, so the activity of both vehicles and industries was lower. Therefore, there is a reference period to be able to compare the evolution of environmental contaminants during different periods in an aggregate manner using mathematical methods to aid decision-making. For this, it is necessary to treat, weight and normalize the data set for each period of each year to later be able to compare them objectively through different mathematical methods and thus to be able to draw conclusions globally in a ranking of annual aggregate index.
