- Abstract
The article synthesizes Chiavacci's essays on the themes of love and sexuality in which the author deals with problematic and thorny questions. His first writings are commentaries on Gaudium et Spes and above all on the encyclical Humanae Vitae, in particular dealing with the subject of natural law, presented in various historical settings. The themes relative to sexuality in marriage and to family are then treated (and in a more concise manner to premarital sexual relations and to the prevention of AIDS) in the light of the newness of the Concilliar documents. Next the thought of the author is more amply developed in various directions, in particular dealing with homosexuality. The article contextualizes the thought of Chiavacci in his ample historical-cultural examination with problematic junctions and open questions. Then follows a few critical observations on methodological aspects and on the deficient presentation of two subjects: the relation between social questions and sexual life, let alone the value of continence.
