- Abstract
Slovenian is the language of instruction and the official language in Slovenian kindergartens, so preschool teachers must write orthographically correctly. The study examines redundant commas in Slovenian as an orthographic error in a sample of 175 students of preschool education and suggests activities to prevent them. According to the syllabus, students learn the appropriate use of the comma from primary school to the last grade of secondary school. They nonetheless write commas between parts of a sentence, especially if they include a preposition. We therefore suggest exercises using authentic texts, focusing on the aforementioned errors, dictation and linking syntax to the comma. Our analysis complements the research by Šek Mertük (2011a, 2011b) and Logar and Popič (2015) on orthographic errors among secondary and university students. It points to the need for more in-depth analysis of the causes of comma errors.
