- Authors
Werner, Ray O.; Griffiths, L. C.
- Abstract
The article presents legal developments in marketing relating to the regulation of product characteristics. Regarding product standards, a case involving Louisville Bedding Co. Inc. is discussed, in which the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accepted a consent order prohibiting the company from misrepresenting the characteristics of its products. Regarding packaging and conditions of sale, a case involving E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co. is discussed, in which the FTC issued a complaint alleging insufficient product testing and knowingly marketing a product that would damage auto cooling systems under normal use. The FTC's pronouncement of trade regulations on games of chance in the food retailing and gasoline industries is also discussed.
