- Abstract
The article presents an essay which examines the federal authorities' militarization of the U.S. Border Patrol at the U.S.-Canada border in 1926. Violence, policing, and the consolidation of federal power in the northern border region are considered. Additional topics include the Immigration Act of 1924, the recruitment of war veterans and issuance of military-like uniforms, and the border residents' and officials' reception of this militarization.
