The article discusses the age of the elites, the period of European history between 1650 and 1750 which was politically stable and saw a rise in patronage of the arts such as music, architecture, and music reflecting the cultural tastes of the upper classes. Topics include the Grand Manner of painting embraced during the Rococo period, authors including Jean Racine and John Milton, and Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.
