- Abstract
The article looks at the mandated Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), a comprehensive national security review conducted by the U.S. government agencies, focusing on its significance in the military strategic planning. Government agencies mentioned include the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of State. It assesses the value of these formal planning activities in terms of guiding strategic decisions and agency management. Other topics include the National Security Strategy (NSS), relations between the U.S. Congress and the executive branch, and the importance of external events in determining national security decisions.
