- Abstract
Objective: We analyzed the influence of lifestyle behaviors and social support on depressive symptoms among permanent supportive housing (PSH) residents. Methods: Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between behavioral and social factors on depressive symptoms among 420 PSH residents participating in a health coaching intervention. Results: Improvements in social support over 6 months significantly predicted a reduction in depressive symptoms (p < .0001). Changes in physical activity (p = .722) and diet quality (p = .282) over 6 months did not significantly predict changes in depressive symptoms. Conclusion: In this population, improving social support may be more effective in reducing depressive symptoms compared with modifications in diet quality and physical activity.
