- Abstract
This article's main objective is to discuss the wide range of social attitudes that shaped the citizens' response to the control and censorship of Vargas' Estado Novo (1937-1945). The resistant attitudes are specially analyzed and the concept of resistance is treated based on the delimitation of their spaces of action: some "from above", within the spaces of power (endogenous to power) and others "from below" or "from outside", outside the power spaces (exogenous to power). To study the resistance to the Vargas regime we have developed our own categories: planned endogenous resistance, conditioned endogenous resistance, para-official exogenous resistance and clandestine exogenous resistance. The present work was carried out through the analysis of primary sources collected in the following files: Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo (APESP) and CPDOC (Fundação Getúlio Vargas).
