- Abstract
The article outlines the case filed against Salvador and Mabel Mongano, the owner-operators of the Saint Rita's nursing home in New Orleans, Louisiana. Both of them were sued for negligence, homicide and cruelty because of their failure to evacuate older adults in the facility. They refuse to transfer them because they insist that the facility will provide safe shelter to residents, staff and their family members and they believed that their fragile patients would not survive being transported. But when Katrina hit the state, the facility was enveloped by flood waters thus drowning thirty-five patients.
