The article discusses about the four species, lulav, etrog, hadas and arara, integral part of the Sukkot holiday. It discusses that variety of allegorical approaches for unpacking the esoteric meaning of the four species offered by the Midrash; Maimonides understood the four species to relate to Israel's entry into the Land of Israel in the days of Joshua; and symbolize water in the diverse ecological habitats of Israel, desert wilderness, mountains & hills, cultivated plains and river valleys.
