- Title
The Marcellus Shale: Bridge to a Clean Energy Future or Bridge to Nowhere? Environmental, Energy and Climate Policy Considerations for Shale Gas Development in New York State.
- Authors
Argetsinger, Beren
- Abstract
The article focuses on shale gas developments in the U.S. and discusses the role of domestic natural gas as a bridge fuel from coal and oil to cleaner renewable resources. It explains some of the water and air resource pollution concerns arising from hydraulic fracturing and shale gas development and highlights the environmental, energy and climate policy considerations for Marcellus shale development in New York State. It reflects that shale gas production releases more greenhouse gas emissions than traditional gas production and hence highest standards of environmental compliance must be met in development of shale gas development.
