- Title
The importance of placing measures of health locus of control beliefs in a theoretical context.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article focuses on the misuse of Health Locus of Control (HLC) scales by researchers. The HLC scales were developed to be used in the context of social learning theory. The lack of proper understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the construct leads to neglect on the part of researchers to include an health value (HV) measure along with a HLC measure. The relationship between HV and health behavior is moderated by internal health locus of control. The association between HLC beliefs and health status depends on the premise that one's own health behavior determines one's health status.
