- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of good communication when nurses talk to young people about substance abuse in order to elicit accurate information and optimize care in England. It enumerates reasons for substance use including experimental, recreational and dependency, as well barriers to conversations such as fear of legal and safeguarding systems. Emphasis is given on the need for intervention to address withdrawal symptoms and screening tools for assessing and guiding treatment.
