- Abstract
The insertion of psychology professionals in school contexts is recent in Puerto Rico, therefore it is necessary and pertinent to develop a profile of these professionals as well as work conditions and organizational challenges that impact the development of the practice of school psychology in our island. This study consists of a survey on the perception about knowledge of psychology professionals in school contexts about working conditions and organizational principles in these settings in Puerto Rico. The sample comprised of 69 participants (61 females and 8 males) psychologists who work in school contexts in Puerto Rico. Participants perceived having a broad knowledge of the domains of school psychology practice. They report the need to work on areas specific to the school culture and climate and working conditions. These responses suggest that these school and work climate needs do not allow them to enhance their knowledge and skills. These results offer information to identify needs in the practice of psychology in schools and develop strategies to strengthen school psychology in Puerto Rico.
