- Abstract
This paper gives an overview on the state of research on media's influence on the policy process. On the backdrop of the mediatization concept both direct and indirect media effects in all stages of the policy cycle are analyzed: from agenda-setting, policy formulation and implementation to evaluation of a policy. In terms of agenda-setting and policy formulation current research remains contradictory; there exist both studies that show a strong and a weak media influence. Analyses of media's influence on the stages of implementation and evaluation are scarce but they also show evidence for a media influence - especially on the evaluation of a policy. Thus, this paper shows that media can be influential both in the public and non-public areas of the policy cycle.
